Guys, need a new controller.
CNC application
2 amps per motor so A4988 is fine but would love more.
Must have a user friendly software interface and driver.
Dual y, single x, single z, pwm for spindle speed controller.
I’ve tried the CNCx and TinyG both are exceptional but the price point hurts me do what I’ve got planned. The GRBL shield is cool but not real excited about mounting two huge Nema 48s in series or parallel on one driver. Smoothie looks awesome, but price point is a bit too high.
What else is out there at a nice price point?
Oops sorry, hadn’t had my coffee yet. Nema 23s and they are rated above 2 (2.6) but haven’t blown or sent into thermal shut down a driver in many a moon.
http://www.pololu.com/product/2133 can give you a bit more (with plenty of cooling) but I would go with a M542 if you can afford it (no fan and room for growth current-wise).
Hey.
Did you see that Smoothieboard has a version with only 3 axes that is cheaper than the other two ? That’s designed specifically for small CNC uses.
If the price is still too high, contact me at wolf.arthur@gmail.com, there can be solutions to that.
Cheers
@Miguel_Sanchez DRV8825 is a great stick I really like it!! http://www.smw3d.com/drv8825-stepper-stick/ is my little store and the one I use and sell.
@Arthur_Wolf , man, just checked to see they were back in stock, Mark was supposed to shoot me an email. By the way, congrats on making an awesome software package. You guys really have a great product from what I’ve read. Really want to try it out.
The reason I’m asking this question is a number of people have approached me and ask me to make an “OX in a box” kit. I have enough stuff to make them, just need a controller.
Hey.
I’m glad you like Smoothie. You really should try it out, all the features are not apparent right away, you’ll probably be surprised by quite a few nice things
If you want to make kits, you can contact me, we have bulk prices.
Cheers.
