Guys, what is the technique to manipulate the surface of a 3d print so that it looks textured? I’ve seen this before but can’t seem to find it again for the life of me. It wasn’t lithophanes, it was some sort of pattern due to the various ways/directions the plastic was being laid down on the part …

OK, found it … Velocity Painting …so my question would have been if there is a way to simulate the looks of for example carbon fiber texture.

Cura has an experimental feature to create “fuzzy” perimeters and give a print an interesting texture too.

Kisslicer 2.0 premium (still in alpha) has pretty much this feature. You give it a texture and it applies it to the surface of the model. The texture is generated by varying the amount of plastic extruded on the perimeter pass.

Works best with high contrast images. Wood textures work well.

There’s also the various surface patterns in slic3r for top/bottom texturing. Octagram spiral is especially good for radially symmetric things

But definitely give kiss a try. The ui sucks donkey balls, but once you get past that and understand the sometimes wonky settings, it generates prints much better than any other slicer.
