Had an awesome time at Shambhala. Once again a huge shout out to @Aaron_Liddiment for all of his awesome help with the code, wouldn’t have been mistaken for Daft Punk without you
I am currently trying to slap together an instructable for the project, will post later about it. Just trying to relax a little after one of the most hectic 5 months of my life.
Any tips or lessons learned along the way?
This looks really awesome!
They came out fantastically!
Tips or lessons? hmm well I would have to say that even though it may seem to some like a trivial thing, the coding was a huge burden. I allocated myself about 3 months to get it completed, and this was before Aaron Liddiment graciously stepped in and saved my butt big time with all of his assistance. So definitely with a project like this if you are not that experienced with the programming portion leave yourself double or triple the time you may think required, lol.
The hardware portion was also a lot of trial and error. What would fit, what would allow for best visibility, power demands, (and then the one that almost killed my project towards the end) the capability’s of the arduino’s (i.e. lack of memory and power regulators blowing up on me due to foolish oversights) I really like the WS2812B breakout chips. They are compact and realitivly cheap with good heat dissapation. it is quite a big job to hand solder 500+ leds, but in the long run was well worth it do to the increase in visibility over what the strips or matrices would have provided.
Build process documentation. I tried to take as many pictures as possible of the whole process but there are some gaps where I had just got carried away with building and not taking any pictures. Take pictures, lots and lots of pictures. Everyone has been hassling me to do a build write up, and it will be a bit frustrating for some when I cannot show my work in some areas.
It was definitely a learning experience, one which I hope to take and utilize for many projects to come
I just purchased a 3d printer, designing a vacuum moulding bench, and I am doing a lot of research in resin casting methods. I am already racking my brain for other cool projects where I can utilize my weird obsession for led’s, too many as a matter of fact
Would you be Willing to Share the Code you used for the Side Rainbow Racks? I’m building a Guy Man using WS2812B LEDs Myself for a School Project (Circuitry) and The Code is Stumping me…lol
I’m building a Thomas helmet right now. I would love to chat with you about the code you used to drive the helmet. I have some code but it is not using FastLED, which I want to stay with if possible. Any help would be appreciated.
