Hah. I predicted this happening about 6 months ago. I didn’t expect the Chinese to do it this quickly though.

10 completely 3D printed houses appears in Shanghai, built under a day

Only 6 months ago? I remember a time when I was 12 years old, when I thought to myself “wouldn’t it be cool if there was a machine that could squirt hot plastic out of a small hole and build up layers to make an object”. If only I knew how to develop and idea back then.

So they are doing nothing different to pre casting. And how long for a panel.
You can CNC cut wooden panels to do the same job as this and a lot greener.

This is gonna happen on the moon someday. Probably sooner than we might think.

Erm. Look at the date guys!

@Neil_Darlow and look at the date on one of the photos…did you not look at the pictures and the article

@Nigel_Dickinson I did. A few pictures of an end result are not convincing. Why not show the printer, on site, producing these houses? The claim of being able to print a house “within hours” does not seem credible - think about the physics of cement drying sufficiently to support the structure. A time-lapse video of one of these houses being printed (with a running timestamp) would convince me.

This is AWESOME. I will live in a 3D printed house one day.

@Neil_Darlow and look at my first comment. I know somebody is planning a kick starter to do a similar thing but cannot remember where I say it.

I remember seeing a news segment on a house that was printed from concrete. This was 15 years ago, at least. They didn’t call it 3D printing back then but it was essentially the same. A giant delta printer (on wires).

April Fools?

@Neil_Darlow go google ‘contour crafting’ if your concerned this is a hoax. If it is, it’s credible because this the future of prefabricated concrete slabs. I expected the Chinese to do this faster than the west due to their less rigorous building codes.
@Nigel_Dickinson why is precut plywood greener?cnc produces a mass of unusable offcuts. It certainly wouldn’t be as strong as a concrete equivalent, I don’t think your comparison works.

@Tim_Rastall as concrete is a producer of gases bad for the environment. And wood is part of the natural bio mass.
And off cuts can be turned into chipboard.
