How does this work?
@Bright_Aduku just like a normal 3d printer. Do you have questions about the specific mechanics of it?
I remember taking a look at the Darwin when it was released and thinking, “I’ll never be able to make one of those!” It doesn’t seem that complicated to me now that I know what everything is, still I’m glad there are more simplified designs these days.
Did you know that the Darwin pictured above is not the Grandad of all RepRaps.
GrandadRap has many green ABS parts and is currently at my place.
@Gary_Tolley_Grogyan does it work?
@Justin_Nesselrotte No, it needs repairing. And time.
I have all the bits to refurbish it to a working state
I also need to get a solid base as the design is prone to skewing
@Gary_Tolley_Grogyan I see. Would love some pics of the printer and the repair process in this forum if you wouldn’t mind. I think it’d be a cool bit of history.
The MXL belts for the X and Y axes have deteriorated beyond use, replacing them with GT2.
New mold was printed just last night and is orange in colour.
The 608 bearing holders are tentatively being replaced at a later date once I can get proper colour matching done with Colorfabb new offering of colour matching
The effector will be the E3D Titan, this was a sad, but very conscious decision to make as effectors have changed so much over the years that it would the main point of failure for actual printing.
Sorry Vik and Adrian.
Two of the guides for the Z axis are missing, will need printing out, though I might try to get that colour matched as well, and have a hidden linear bearing inside, as that was the reason as to why it has only 2 Z guides
@Justin_Nesselrotte I don’t generally do blogs, vlogs etc.
And I am terribly bad at keeping notes.
So my Facebook or G+ are where I post my 3D printing life.
The original control board is lost to time, using a generic RAMPS, however the driver chips may not be adequate for the beefy NEMA 23
intressante!
I just looked: i still have enough treaded-rod laying around, would be a fun weekend Projeckt…
