Happy Wednesday everybody.
Here’s hoping all your first layers are glassy and smooth.
Also, if you’re in the SoCal area, there’s a big meetup tonight at MatterHackers.
Joel Telling - the 3DPrintingNerd, Angus from Maker’s Muse, and a bunch of other people are hanging out. Food, drinks, and 3D printing talk. What more could you ask for?
Damn, shame I’m on the wrong side of the Pond.
What is that covering the heater block? Silicon Sock? Looks like cork.
It’s silicone. I casted it around my block, then cut out the spaces. It’s worked well, but next round will be much better
@Taylor_Landry is it fireplace silicone? What exactly did you use? And where did you get?
Why put silicon around the heater block?
@Andrew_Blinkmann - many reasons, insulates the block, giving better temperature stability, helps keep the block clean and stops filament sticking to it, to name just a couple.
Interesting. Noticed that once plastic gets on the block it’s next to impossible to remove. Might have to try some.
Tbh, if you have an E3D v6, get the block and sock very much worth it. Admittedly, I go through an E3D sock over all 4 of my printers once every other month, I am printing high volume stuff though.
Yeah, I got tired of replacing the socks. And I lost a few prints to the sock falling off mid-print. Encasing it has worked great.
