Has anybody tried using the SPIRam library with fastled to increase available ram for the Pixel buffer? I figure it would theoretically work, but I was curious how it would come out in practice.
Might be theoretically possible with a four-wire clocked LED strip… but performance would drag to a complete crawl.
There is no substitute for fast, direct-access RAM. If you need more RAM, start with a board that has more RAM; the under-$20 Teensy 3.1 has enough RAM for (far) more than ten thousand pixels.
