has anyone did any research about using a solenoid to release and retract a zprobe?.
Im thinking on getting one so i can avoid the servo, but before spending money i want to know if theres any experience around this.

We do this on the DeltaMakers except the solenoid doesn’t move anything, it’s actually the probe itself. On the top end it presses/depresses a switch.
@ThantiK , so, you have the probe next to the hotend?, the heat doenst do nasty stuff to the solenoid?
The aluminum L bracket we use to mount it deflects most of the heat.
I might steal your idea if i find a small solenoid
Sparkfun.
argentinean customs. We get to bring from abroad 2 things per year, and its value haves to be less than 25 u$d. Plus, for any international cc transaction, we pay 35% tax. Customs tax is 50% of goods plus shipping.
So, i will try to find something local or ditch the idea.
I thought of the idea to you need to add additional circuitry to make the solenoid work but thats as far as i got looking into using a solenoid, as the circuit is connected to pin 6 on the arduino and gnd i didn’t know how to wire through the ramps so i scrapped the idea
