Has anyone else used Makers Geek filament? These are both ‘Translucent Red’ but of significantly different color and filament density. You can see the differences of color and if you look closely at the printed part in the third picture, the result of the different density.
This is pretty terrible consistency imho…but perhaps it’s standard for Makers Geek? I haven’t bought much filament from them…
Yeah I know what it looks like. I was commenting on the lack of quality control and was wondering if anyone else had experienced issues with their filament @Greg_Copeland
I’ve exchanged emails with them and they seem like they care. Reach out to them and let us know. Seems like something is off with one roll. Might even share this thread with them.
I had a very bad experience with them recently. One spool wouldn’t stick no matter what, another one had bulges that clogged the extruder. They said if we shipped them back that they would replace them. We also shipped back all our empty spools as they promised a discount on recycled filament. We had problems with moisture in the filament too, new unopened filament was bubbling and popping.
That was 6 weeks ago, no response to emails. Also had a big order, after 1 month they still didn’t ship. Canceled all orders and will never buy from them again.
Wow, that’s disappointing to hear. It’s such a small community. They have to know they only hurt themselves by not taking care of customers. Comments like @Stephanie_A ’ means I’m unlikely to be a repeat customer.
There’s simply too much competition to be loyal to a brand who doesn’t care about the customer experience. Once you learn about bulk pricing on plastic pellets, even the cheapest filament is actually a premium price. There’s plenty of room to stand by your customers and do the right thing.
I’ve had a fairly medicre experience with MakerGeek filament when using it on my E3Dv6. Inconsistency in the filament really shows up the print, and even ‘non-translucent’ filament has some translucency to it. My UBIS 13 is move forgiving and prints well, even with inconsistency in the filament.
You do get what you pay for though. Their filament is a lot cheaper than Atomic Filament, and Atomic has been really consistent in filament diameter as well as the amount of colorant in the filament.
The price was the main selling point, they are cheap, and they claimed to be high quality made in USA. We didn’t even care about color, so the grab bags were a great deal. I hate to badmouth a company but the least they could have done was answer emails about our order status and replacements. If there is a mistake, or a delay then communicate and fix it.
We went and bought Atomic, it shipped the next day.
@Stephanie_A Atomic is pretty great. If you’re up later in the day, you can usually talk to the guy that runs in on IRC too. Super responsive, and totally kills it on customer service.
I emailed them this morning, we’ll see what they come back with. Price was definitely why I went with them (grab bag and now geek box), I use it as a cheap filament to prototype with. You can’t beat $15/kg
