Has anyone ever seen a 1m 72 LED strip?

Has anyone ever seen a 1m 72 LED strip? Just got a few orders in from China via ebay. Bought from different suppliers because I did so by snipping auctions. So one takes what one can get. But one of them listed as a “1m 60 LED apa104” strip is indeed 1 meter long, but has 72 LED’s.

Well it was 1m long. One of the LED’s was bad so I had to cut it out n resolder…

Yeah, I ordered this one a while back and have been pretty happy with it: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/3-2FT-1M-APA102-Led-strip-Light-Flexible-Ribbon-72led-Pixels-Addressable-DC-5V/2045080871.html

Heat your oven up to 200C - put the ‘faulty’ module in for 5 minutes. Open the door and let it cool.

You will probably find it is now working.

Diodes are hard to kill - solder joints in a flexible matrix are not.

@Jason_Coon Are apa102’s that much more expensive? I only paid the guy $6.50 for this one w/free shipping… But most are 60/30 per meter right? This one was defiantly listed as 60. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1M-APA104-60LEDS-Black-Waterproof-LED-strip-light-5050-RGB-5V-Replace-WS2812B-/400927820361?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=1f0XRAKxtrN%2FO4bdBGeZ8Y5BgfI%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

@Mike_Thornbury Good idea, and one I’ve used before on other things…

Yeah, I’m sure they can be found cheaper elsewhere and/or in bulk. I ordered those about 8 months ago. I’ve started buying 144 per meter strips like this in bulk: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/1-meter-144pcs-APA-102C-addressable-led-pixel-strip-144pixels-m-non-waterproof-WHITE-PCB/32268465139.html

If you aren’t familiar with APA102’s, they support much higher framerates than APA104 (which are clones of WS2812). See Daniel’s post here for more info: https://plus.google.com/u/0/102282558639672545743/posts/eqQ78D87Zra

@Jason_Coon From what i can tell looking on ebay, that’s a great price, and is spectacular if you buy 5 meters or more. Unfortunately no 102 strips listed as auctions.

But looking at them, the LED’s compared to the width of the strip. It doesn’t look like you could get two strips close enough (even over lapping them) to match the vertical distance with the horizontal…

The ‘72s’ are properly square, though. You should be able to get a much better grid layout than with the rectangular 60s.

Just found ‘96s’ as well… so it looks like there’s 24, 30, 60, 72, 96, 144 available in APA102C.

@Mike_Thornbury Because it wasn’t confusing enough already…

Yeah, I haven’t tried making a grid out of strips, I just use SmartMatrix for that.

@Jason_Coon Googled it, and first thing I saw your video…

Having watched your (@Jason_Coon ) vid, found this one. Which is not fast LED, or even RGB. But still a lot of info… Multiplexing and what not…
