Has anyone managed to print Ultimachine PLA without getting strings on moves?

Has anyone managed to print Ultimachine PLA without getting strings on moves? I’d be interested to hear what settings you’re using, I haven’t been able to get rid of them entirely.

Attaching a couple of photos of the make magazine torture test, stringing is visible.

Are you using retraction?

Agree with @Terran_Schatz retraction usually cleans this up. If your Z axis is a little “bad” you might use Z lift as a bandaid (lube your Z axis) but it is probably smarter to find the root cause (wrong Z cal, over extruding due to wrong nozzle or filament size in slicer or bad E cal).

I will try the torture test tomorrow. Where is the STL?

Dooh. Misread. I have Ultimaker PLA.

I modded my printrbot simple to have a Bowden extruder and also got significant stringing. Retraction didn’t seem to help much. It was so bad I eventually had to give up and go back to the stock extruder. Any other tips on how to defeat stringiness (and blobs) would be much appreciated.

retraction + tweaking the temp should fix it

I’ve printed at temps from 175 to 210, and I’ve tried various retraction speeds and distances, with and without z lift on retract. I have managed to get completely rid of strings using other pla, but Ultimachine is widely regarded to make good plastic as far as I know. So I’m wondering if anyone has managed to get rid of the strings, and what their settings were.

@Peter_Parnes stl is here http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:33902 and my recent post here notes some key parameters to avoid knocking over the arch when printing without support: https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/makergear/A9Nj1uoNbSQ
