Has anyone on here had any experience with the Velleman Vertex K8400 printer?

I’ve been running a PrintrBot Jr v1 for about a year now and I’m ready to move up to a bit bigger and better. I would like to get a dual extruder that is Repetier-Host / Merlin firmware compatible. My budget is $600-900. A friend of mine has an Ultimaker 1 and its fantastic but its out of my price range. And my father has a FlashForge Dreamer but its not compatible merlin firmware / reprap software, and I think it’s a bit too cramped with having the spools of filament sit inside the printer case.

I know the K8400 only comes with one extruder but it comes ready for a 2nd one, which I can’t find right now but hopefully will be more readily available in the future. There seems to be a lot of great reviews about the older K8200 but I’m not a fan of how the print bed moves along both the X and Y axis.

Thoughts?

Looks like a pretty decent Ultimaker clone. I don’t have any experience with one. The K8200 was a pile of garbage. But a lot of people didn’t know that it was a pile of garbage. Moving the bed in X/Y is a terrible idea. Moving the extruder in XY is a much better idea!

Dual extruders: Don’t even bother with them, honestly. Too much hassle for not enough reward.
