What’s interesting is that Mark Wheadon would say it’s interesting, because he’s got a great set of Thingies that use this same concept, on a smaller, less complex scale:

Agreed, I think they look fascinating in their own right – like someone has, very neatly, drawn the colour on with pen. I have lacquerware (like) box that uses the same technique with I’ve yet to release on thingiverse. Here’s a taster:

These techniques only work for printers that don’t have auto bed levelling, right? Mine taps a grid of 10-20 points before each print, so leaving printed layers on the bed between prints wouldn’t work for me.

Yes, I agree. If the auto-levelling parameters persist between print jobs then you could switch off the bed levelling somehow? A recent auto-calibration would be good enough as nothing will change much in the short term…
