Has anyone used this budget extruder from Ohio plastics?

Has anyone used this budget extruder from Ohio plastics? I got it on Ebay for $16, I am curious to see the quality.

PTFE insulators like that will deform over time due to the pressure in the nozzle. He should have read the RepRap diary first before creating them.

That is probably why they are usually 5/8" instead of 1/2"

Just a quick guess: PLA will jam after three layers, while ABS temperatures will deform the PTFE body and cause leaks - though i’d love to be proven wrong.
(on a related note, that’s a hotend, not an extruder).

That thing is a blast from the past.

I don’t know what I was thinking @Thomas_Sanladerer but yes Hotend. I am going to put it together and try printing some things and post my results later.

Just out of interest, as someone new to the hobby can you clarify the difference between a hotend and an extruder for me? Thanks

Take a quick hop on over to the reprap forums, you’ll get a great idea on how well ohioplastics has done at kissing off most of the community there

Thanks @J_O11 I know this thing is too good to be true. I was just curious on how well it worked for the price.

It’ll squirt plastic, but it’s a design from 5yrs ago, that never worked well anyways.

I guess I can keep it for an emergency backup.

There ya go. Do yourself a favor, especially if it’s your first time, go get a real http://hotends.com hotend.

Thanks @Ashley_Webster

Honestly, I’m pushing people toward E3D hot ends more now. You can actually replace the nozzles on them, which makes for easier cleaning, better disaster recovery, etc.

100+ hours with the E3D and hasn’t let me down yet. Worth every penny.

I really like the E3D also, I have one and I also have a budascnozzle 2.0. They both are incredibly reliable. I just want to find an economical hotend that isn’t $100 or made in another country so when I need a replacement part I don’t have to wait weeks.

Pico is usa based not sure if there shipping yet

Have you looked at the merlin hotend? It’s on reprap discount for a good price. I’ve been meaning to order one and give it a shot.

I seen pico @Mike_Ashcraft isn’t it like $100 also?

I think about the same as the e3d
