Have just gotten our bulk order of Tritan in from Taulman and up on our site. This is, for me, one of the most exciting materials of 2014. Mechanically nearly as strong and tough as polycarbonate, but an order of magnitude easier to print.
Also have PCTPE in stock, along with all the other standard Taulman goodness.
I really need to do a blog post on some of the newer more interesting materials we’ve got at E3D now. If anyone has any smart ideas for demo prints or materials they’d like to know more about do let me know. We’re trying to build up a range of exceptionally cool materials and so far it’s going well.
Are people interested in sample packs of cool materials? Like our Top-5 Engineering plastics, 20m each? Top 5 Artsy Fartsy Colour Changing/Wood-filled etc?
We wanted to be able to do everything by the meter, but it was too labour intensive. We do now have a machine to cut us pre-defined lengths of filament though, so keen to do samples etc.
@Sanjay_Mortimer sample packs would be awesome and 20m is nice amount. You should think about opening a location in the US, or partnering with someone who sees your vision, I think shipping costs dissuade a lot of potential customers. And there aren’t many places here with as many filament options as you have.
I carry the Taulman stuff as well and have been working on a little write up. What I wanted to do, still working with my engineering lab, is create tensile test specimens and perform load test on all the Taulman engineered plastics. Then do a comparison to standard used items, such as ABS and PLA. Next would be a cyclical fatigue test specimen in each and perform testing.
A couple of great things that I have noted about @Tom_Martz filament is 1.75mm filament is 1.75, not 1.76 not 1.74. All materials print better than ABS or PLA, they are a dream to extrude. No odor. And really cool, at least to me… Tritan is FDA approved… Plan on making myself a really awesome cup this week…
@Deven_Garner I’m a US distributor for E3D (http://www.filastruder.com), but for stuff like filament it makes more sense to buy directly from Taulman (or wherever). Shipping is the big killer here, cheaper to ship it once rather than 2-3 times.
@Tim_Elmore I’m aware and by the way thanks for the new nozzles got them 5 mins ago. And yes I was mostly talking about filament, I like how e3d does sample packs in lengths large enough for me to print something to test properties and they have a assortments from several vendors. Pipe dream I guess.
Ah gotcha, especially on the sample pack front. You might want to check out PrintedSolid (http://www.printedsolid.com/the-full-catalog/), they have quite a bit of filament. The owner is a great guy, he’d probably have no problem putting together a sample pack.
