Having problem with a Sketchup design… Any one has an idea why slic3r does not “see” the bottom plate of the design ?
Does slicer throw any errors about the object not being solid and having holes? That is typically the error I get when I see results like this. When its an stl I downloaded and don’t have access to the cad files I use netfabb to fix it. Otherwise I try and find the issue with my design.
Run it through netfabb cloud repair. Sketchup always puts out crappy models that do this kind of stuff. It might be able to repair it, it might not.
There might be more than one object in the scene. Are the faces reversed?
Even if no errors are thrown, this will fail. It’s a sketch up thing. Be sure to extrude/pull the main body first before doing the taller parts. Otherwise a thin wall is made that fools the slicer into producing what you see above. I has this same issue. Sketchup is an art when making stl files.
Install the plugin ‘Solid Inspector’ in Sketchup. This will highlight problems with your model.
I second what @ThantiK said, errors like that are usually the result of models not being manifold. Run it through netfabb cloud and that ought to fix it.
Do yourself a favor, and stop using sketchup. It was never designed to be a CAD and sucks at it.
netfabb cloud sounds interesting, I’ll give it a shot.
Way back used to be fairly handy an AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop, but not beside the fact that I do not have an access to a license I would probably be terribly show with it.
What are you guys using? SolidWords, AutoCAD 123D series ?
Openscad here.
Openscad and Sketchup. Just depends on whether I’m looking for something quick or not. Sketchup is good but you have to do things a certain way. Push/pull has to be done in a specific order and faces can’t just be deleted. Always Netfabb clean as stl file, but don’t expect it to do all the work.
Rhino.
netfabb cloud did a good job, except for some mounting holes.
Decided to print anyway but X axis fish line broke on layer 21/26…
When I got my Printrbot Simple it was missing the fish line so while they were shipping me the real thing I bought the strongest multi-braid fish line I could find around here which is 40lb, but I guess it’s not enough and the sand disk tore through it.
In sketchup reverse any of the faces that aren’t white and try the Outer Shell command.
make sure to select everything and reapply the standard colour, that will show faces that are the wrong way round. also hide large faces and check for internal surfaces.
