Having some issues with layer adhesion while building the spiral vase at 130%. This is the biggest print I’ve done so far, and it hasn’t shown up in smaller objects. This is also my first hollow piece. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this issue? It didn’t start appearing until around 10 hours in, so I’m a little hesitant to change something then see if it appears again later…

If anyone could add some insight, I’d appreciate it.

At a guess from a newbie: maybe your hot end is having trouble keeping the temp up during sustained extrusion on the larger layers? If I had that result, I’d try bumping the temp up 5-10C, but that’s just on an educated guess.

Is your hot end firmly in place? I have seen shifting cause this issue.

My guess would be drafts. Cold breezes, or even just room temperature breezes, can cause layers to cool at different rates during a print and make them warp and crack.

Try putting something, even cardboard sheets, on your printer so the print area is protected from errant air motion.

@Stephen_Jensen , yea, everything was tightened on the hotend prior to this print. I noticed some were loose earlier, but fixed before this run.

@Carlton_Dodd yeah my best guess right now is to do another extruder calibration.

Those look like cracks from uneven cooling like @Stephen_Baird mentioned. I’ve been printing some large thin walled objects recently on my Lulzbot TAZ and I’ve had a similar issue. After putting the printer in an enclosure to minimize drafts and keep a somewhat stable temperature, the cracking has stopped (without any other changes).

You didn’t mention whether you were using ABS or PLA, but if it’s ABS, it’s surely what @Stephen_Baird said.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. It is ABS, and I’ll try to make a rudimentary enclosure for my next print. I’ve been meaning to move it anyway.

Thanks! I’ll keep you posted on results.
