Heat break sheered off at the heater block on my life e3d v6 hotend. Any of you resourceful folks know how one might get the remaining peice out?
yeah I did that last week…a small flat screwdriver tap it in until it “bites” and then turn or buy some “easy outs”…these are used to get out screws when their heads are to gnarly
This happened to me too on a v5… I ended up ordering a replacement metal kit as the easiest option.
I’m trying to avoid the replacement but if what @Cameron_King suggested doesn’t work for me I might have to. So mad at myself.
but it is soooo easy to do
@kenneth_rooks have it heated when you use the easy out. Aluminum expands more than stainless. It will make it easier. Plus any plastic in the threads also gets loosened.
Must be hot when removing. Remove nozzle first if you haven’t already. EZ outs seem like a good option, but ive never seen one that would be any use in such a small hole. A new break may actually be cheaper. If you have an M4 plug tap you could drill part way into the break stub with a 3.3mm bit, tap into the hole and drive the stub all the way through the block by turning the tap or a bolt in the tapped hole clockwise. Again, must be hot when trying to remove by any means.
Use a dremel to cut a slot in the sheered face of the break and then unscrew it with a flat head driver. Done this a couple of times with a v5.
What have you been burning with that block?
@Brad_Hopper makible brand pla, and abs.
I had the same problem a while ago. I heated it up and all seemed to be going well… stripped the thread on the aluminium heater block, now part of my scrap metal collection
