Hehehe…Adafruit.com sells some 3D printer parts. It may be a game changer for this community too.

Limor Fried aka Lady Ada of Adafruit Industries and http://adafruit.com seems to have just bought Radio Shack. I think it may make a come back. Lady Ada is known as the top female hobbiest electronics geek and their website has a lot of instructional videos for young electronics engineers.
This is the best news for the electronics industry in the USA that I have heard for a very long time! https://twitter.com/adafruit/status/916473322203992064
It’s been four days since those images were posted and they’ve said nothing of the sort yet. Right now I don’t see any reason to believe that they bought anything more than antique stock certificates as collectors items. As much as I’d like to see a local AdaShack, it seems like a stretch in an online age.
Seems a risky image to post… maybe just an oversight. I’m sure they are worth millions but to buy even a failing radio shack would probably take investors to help. If so, it could be a huge distraction. Or a huge triumph if it can be saved. It would be a hugely risky move. Brick and mortar is the opposite of where they are at right now.
Congratulations! I worked at Radio Shack for 3 days and left because verbal abuse that I witnessed there. It was a weird experience. One day I went there to purchase an adapter, and they took out the extensions and try to sell me Radio Shack ones. The box clearly indicated that the extension came with it. They were very dishonest there.
In the 80’s, radio shack was Like a candy store. Dad and I would go in and stay until we saw every single item in the store. My first soldering iron was from there and it kept me rolling on projects.
I used to just buy random stuff hoping I could use it someday… I just wanted to have cool parts lying around.
@Brook_Drumm I used to do the same thing. I found a bag in my closet recently from the 90’s filled with 74 series ICs, and misc. other parts that I bought from Radio Shack. I think I had a plan for them at the time.
I’m thinking they either got a larger partnership with RS (they partnered with them at the beginning of the year to sell Adafruit products) to possibly handle their retail stores, or possibly bought stock in them.
