Hello all !
I am currently info hunting for a friend who wants to build a Rostock/Rostock mini:

  • does anybody have a price rundown for the lowest possible cost to build one ?
  • while I have built various printers I have no experience with deltas : are there any particular “gotchas” or know issues / difficulties with calibration ?
  • does anyone know if there are shops selling cheap kits / and/or offer laser cut parts (the base plates for the machine)

Thanks in advance !

Might be worth considering the 3DR by @Richard_Horne

Have you checked cerberus 250? It looks fancy, but I still find Rostock complete kit (http://www.reprap.cc//index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9&products_id=105 little more price/performance…

It really depends where you live. I wanted to build a 3DR but found it impossible to find metric smooth rods in Canada, and shipping them was crazy expensive. I am currently doing a total DIY delta printer and my expected cost is around $700.

@Shachar_Weis Free shipping for 2pcs 10mm Linear shaft round rod L500mm
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-for-2pcs-10mm-Linear-shaft-round-rod-L500mm/619320388.html I use these guys often. Good product, cheap and free shipping.

Thanks a lot for the infos !
@Tim_Rastall that looks really neat , I really like the printable bottom/ tops and the not-use of belts ! ( also I feel daft I used to follow richrap’s blog but totally forgot about the 3DR ) kudos !
@Klemen_Zhivko that looks great as well ! Thanks for the shop link ! To be honest we are attempting to keep total price below 500 euros but bookmarked nonetheless ;-))
@Shachar_Weis is it not possible to adapt the design to non metric ?
Are you using alu extrusions for yours or is it just smooth rods ala Rostock ?
700 $ all included ? That is very close to our budget so that is reasuring

You could also check out http://www.deltaprintr.com  It will retail under $500

Ditto on the 3DR.

@Shai_Schechter “will retail”… the only question is when. Be sure that you don’t follow microsoft style advertising ms surface. When it came out all hype is for long time over.

@Mark_Moissette_ckaos no, because nobody makes linear bearings for non metric.

@Shachar_Weis sure about that? https://sdp-si.com/eStore/Catalog/Group/12

Now you show me this ?
I’ve searched and found nothing

Anyway, I’ve figured that for almost the same price as a 3DR I could build a much larger printer. Now i’m designing one myself around v-slots and some weird T-Slots that I scavenged.

@Shachar_Weis And to add insult to injury:

In fairness, neither seem to get indexed by Google in a way that lets you easily find them.

McMaster will not ship to individuals in Canada (only to businesses)

Yeah, same thing to NZ - you can use http://www.reship.com/ to get around this btw.
