Hello all,

I have a very odd issue with some Neopixel sticks. They’re part of a much larger circuit — but having tried to eliminate the rest of it I can’t work out for the life of me what is going on.

Neopixel sticks supplied by 5v — they only work when I put my multimeters probe on the ground supply.

(Some other issue is that only one of the sticks is showing anything, the other one is random - but I’ll come to that once I have the biggest issue sorted)

Any one else come across something similar before?

Difficult to say for sure but I would guess it is a bad connection !

Hmmmm, yes.

In addition - the voltage at the stick is 2v -this jumps to 5v when I check it with the probes.

Then I am a lot more sure of my diagnostic… you have a bad connection somewhere !

Just checking… You have the ground of your microcontroller tied to the ground of the LED sticks, right?

YES, i’e ha similar problems with my LED strips, can’t tell you how to solve it unfortunately but i know its grounding related.

So in the end it was a dumb mistake with a bad solder joint I missed on a pin header — doh! Thanks all for your help.
