Hello all, I know most questions are regarding the Fast LED library and source code but I had a few questions about power. I hope that is OK…
I am using two strips of WS2812b leds both strips have 32 LEDs for a total of 64. Both strips mirror each other and use the Rainbow color pattern from the fast led library. I use a 3v Adafruit Pro trinket for the driver. So I know I can run the 64 leds from a 3.7v LiPo and that is my plan but I am also using 4 8x8 matrices to make 2 16x8 matrices that will mirror each other. They are red and will be mostly just scrolling words and maybe an animation or two. These are the Matrices in the Link. These require around 4.2v (I could be off a little) but I also plan to use a Step up chip to take the 3.7v from the LiPo to 5v. So my Issue is should I just run the whole thing 5v and one large LiPo? (Strips and all?) This is a helmet that I plan to wear at a convention and the LiPos I have chosen are 3000 mAh. Should I use the step up chip for the Matrices only and let the Strips run off the 3.7. I’m not even sure how long the Matrices will run with a step up and 3000mAh… Hopefully someone may have some advice for me http://www.ebay.com/itm/131676484212?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
@Ken_White Thanks for your reply, I did read those, however none of those mention a step up converter, I can only get the Matrices to work with my 5v Power supply. The 3.7v LiPo will power the Trinket and the WS2812b LEDs but It will not run the Matrices. My only conclusion is that they will not Work with 3.7v. So that is why I asked about the Step up Converter.
@Jarrod_Wagner Howdy, I do not plan to run them at full brightness! Maybe Half way.
@David_Brenchley Hey there, I’m not sure if it helps but I did plan to run the Matrices with a 5V trinket. A step up converter was the way I planned to do that. I did not state that in my Original post. I tested the WS2812b with the 3v trinket and LiPos and they did seem to work ok. Thanks for all of your input so far.
