Hello everyone, i just picked up one of my projects that has been standing

Hello everyone, i just picked up one of my projects that has been standing still for a few years, a cnc router with 800x1000mm work area, it is a quite well dimensioned machine with double 25mm ballscrews and THK 30mm linear guides on the X axis, single 25mm ballscrew and 25mm HIWIN linear guides on the Y axis and a 2,2kW water cooled chinese spindle,

The thing is that i was originally building the control electronics for a parallell port driven 3-axis setup with a single ballscrew on X, but i moved on from that to double screws because of the drawer slide effect, so now i have a complete control setup with 3 Geckodrive G201’s that i need to rebuild to support at least 4 motors, i also need to get one more motor.

But when looking around the diy cnc world got so many more options nowadays… @Machinekit_io looks very intresting and the new closed-loop stepper servo systems seems awesome.

So, has anyone tried the “budget” closed loop cnc systems and have something to reccomend, i am thinking about changing out the X and maybe Y axis to run with that and keeping Z and optional 4th axis on the Geckodrives…?

Any reccomendations?

Very nice machine design.

@Arthur_Wolf : It is mostly built and looks quite nice IRL also (altough with a different simpler Z axis right now), just did not have any good pictures of it on this computer

Anyone tried the Leadshine Stepper Servo drives and motors?

I’ve never used their servo drives, but Leadshines have a good reputation in the community.
There are more expensive but are also known to work well : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zM838mYFjcA

That video of the Omron drive is with a real AC servo, right? Those are usually quite costly… i actually have two Yaskawa 500W 200VAC servo motors lying around, but getting drives for them seems to be prohibitively expensive…

I am running steppers with Leadshine drivers in my
other CNC machine ( http://i.imgur.com/Egy1qb4.jpg ), so i know that they make decent drivers, i’ll just havnt tried any of the hybrid stepper/servo solutions, so i am looking for someone that has experience with those
