Hello Everyone, I just wanted to share an RC Spitfire that I have been

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to share an RC Spitfire that I have been working on for some time now. Work is still in progress and I am looking at ways of making this frame stronger but it needs to be lightweight at the same time. Currently it weighs in around 200grams.

I am going to be testing the flying capability soon but I am not the best at flying RC Aircraft, so I will be uploading the files online so maybe someone who is better than me could help me test fly this plane and also give some feedback so that I can improve this further.

Remember its still a WORK IN PROGRESS.

Thanks

Great stuff! Would be good to get an idea of required sourced material, so we know the potential build cost. Also can you confirm the licence you will be uploading your designs. Would be great if they are in-line with free culture, a CC-BY or CC-BY-SA.

Let’s inspire with http://3dprintingindustry.com/2016/02/22/czech-pilot-launches-library-for-3d-printed-rc-airplanes/. These models (incl. Spitfire) have very light and sturdy 3D printed structure.

@Morgan_Barke It will probably be licensed under CC-BY. And I have just checked the amount of materials it will take to print in CURA and it is coming to around 269 Grams.

@Tomas_Vit I have had a look at the way the structure is built on the 3D Labs planes but that does increase the weight a bit. I am working on a better design for structure that may be really strong but also lightweight.

CC-BY would be great! By source material, I meant what you have to buy in and can’t be 3D printed, inc electronics.

Oh Sorry I have uploaded the files to this website https://www.myminifactory.com/object/19163, it gives further details about everything else

Thanks for the link. When you get back on there, links to the motor, esc, battery and servos would be great as a reference point for buying other types from their preferred supplier. Also I did notice that it is CC-BY-NC. Cheers.

Looks super cool.

this is really nice!!! Well done

Wow!!! That is really sharp!

Thanks Guys. Be sure to post some pictures or videos if you do print your own.

Looks awesome, great job. What CAD software did you design it in?

Very nice!! Is it possible to have access to the files? I try the link you have posted but there is no files available for download. Thanks

@Andre_Roy I have used Solidworks to create the model.
@Luc_Grandchamp @Jan_de_Jager , that is really weird as I can still access the link but only if I am logged into my account, I have emailed MyMiniFactory and hopefully the files will be up by the end of the day.

Files are online again

I just click on free download and i got this error message ‘‘There is no file linked to this 3d object.’’ :frowning:

I get the same error when I try and download it. I would love to try and print this…

I have printed the P-51 from 3D Labprint and it fly very well so I would love to try to fly this one to.

@Jan_de_Jager I haven’t had time to actually fly this plane yet, as its still not the final model and more a work in progress.

@Bishop_Bastien @Luc_Grandchamp There was a small problem with the files but soon as I get that fixed it will be back up on the website, I will post an update when the files are up again.

@Luc_Grandchamp That is awesome I would also love to have some people try to fly the plane and give me feedback on what I can improve.

Should be fine now https://www.myminifactory.com/object/rc-spitfire-19163
