Hello everyone. I’m new to the community. I thought I would share and experience I had recently with Simplify3D. I was having troubles with a clients print so I figured I would bite the bullet and purchase simplify3d. I went over to the website http://www.simplify3d.com and immediately noticed they were using pictures of one of my models on thier homepage! I was kind of taken back because I was never notified that the pics were being used… the model was Dual Extrusion Cup found on #ThingiverseDual Extrusion Cup by ImmersedN3D - Thingiverse
I emailed customer support to ask why they didn’t let me know they were using the pics. I got a response back within a few hours. They were very polite and professional. They admitted that in the future maybe it would be best to let model creators know that thier models or images were being used in articles or website designs. They also offered me a free license!
Overall it was a good experience and I’m looking forward to trying out the new slicer.
There was a bit of a learning curve getting it set up for my dual extruder Prusa i3 machines. I got it working last night. I’ll post an update after I get some more time with the software.
I have 2 printers running off the same PC with Simplify and I love it. It has some odd glitches here and there, but I’m sure updates will take care of that over time.
@AATHIF_AHMED_O_F I find controlling extrusion width to be a very useful feature. For 0.4mm nozzles, I set it to 0.5mm extrusion width. Otherwise, about 1.2 times nozzle oriface. This isn’t unique to S3D, but I find it’s easier under S3D.
I like the software, but it’s a bit disturbing that they used imagery without permission. Even if you’re flattered, consider what if it was a design under confidential agreement?
I would have handled it very differently if it wasn’t a thingiverse
upload. But yes, I thought even though the model had an attribution
clause, it was still common courtesy to let me know the model was being
used. It was a learning experience for me. I know I post a LOT of 3D
print pictures to my instagram and twitter accounts and rarely credit the
artist… a habit that I will now change.
I successfully printed a dual color cone last night. The software is
indeed more difficult to setup than some of the free alternatives. It’s
the fastest slicer I’ve used. I’m still not sold on the supports. Time
will tell. I love the possibility of having control over each
layer/model, even though slic3r added similar functions.
Is there a dual extrusion overlap setting? I know Cura has a setting to
overlap sections where dual extrusions touch helping to close some of the
gaps?
