Hello everyone in the community. I have posted videos here several times in the past couple of years of a large scale LED installation that I designed for a large Sumac tree in my front yard.
Using 60 meters of 2812’s I created a pretty cool LED Tree.
Well not everyone liked it.
At 1:15 am two nights ago someone came to my home and tore out all of the lights and took the effort to throw them in a pile in my front yard.
I managed to capture some of the vandalism on one of my security cameras but not enough to make an ID.
It really saddens me that someone would do this, but I will rebuild it.

Not that I condone vandalism, but did you have these lights on continuously at night?
Although I love creating light effects with ws2812’s, if you where my neighbor, I’d possible knock on your door the second night to shut them off.
In a non-lit neighborhood at night, these lights are pretty visible and the motion might disturb people.
No Kenneth they were not on continually at night. In fact my neighbors would ask when they would be on next. 2 years I have had these lights installed and had no issues only compliments. We have a pretty tight neighborhood and everyone is pretty upset that someone would do this.
As of last night I have received 34 emails from my immediate neighbors expressing their sadness and if they could help out in anyway to rebuild it.
How does one get their head around this mindless destruction. If it is a kid, the blame can only be directed towards the lack of direction by the parents.
I was also inspired by what you did on the tree. Sorry to hear this. I would love to learn how you did sequencing and how you mapped spots where the branches split off. Have you posted this code somewhere?
