Original Prusa i3 MK2? Definitely one of the best rated desktop 3D printer nowadays. I have tested and use one, also made an exclusive introduction with its creator 6 months ago: https://youtu.be/pCHKpsawbbI. Expect 5–8 weeks waiting time, demand is above manufacturing possibilities now.

Sub $300 I would probably look at an i3 clone. Wanhao is supposed to be very good.

$600-$1000 I would suggest the Original Prusa Mk2 which has gotten great reviews and is possibly the best all around printer right now (based on reviews).

$1000-$1200 Maybe a Rostock Max V3 from SeeMeCNC.

Above that, I would probably look at an Ultimaker 2+ or a Lulzbot. Printrbot also has a various price points and is worth checking out, especially in the US.
