Hello, I live in Charlotte NC, is there anybody else out there that lives in Charlotte ?
I live in Wilkesboro?
I’m in the area
Hello Adam, thank you for the response, first of all I would like to let
you know that I am originally from Brazil and even though I’ve been living
in the US for 30 years I don’t know the correct grammar.
I have experience with woodworking machines but I don’t know much about
computer and software etc…, and I am interested in purchasing a Shapeoko
CNC to do small art work and as far as I understand I need also to buy a
software such as the easil in order to design my art work and then conect
the computer to the CNC to operate and execute, well that’s the problem I
have no clue, so I was wandering if I could contact someone in the area
that have the Shapeoko CNC and would be willing to teaching me one on one,
I would be willing to pay for your time of course, so please let me know if
that’s some thing possible, thank you very much,

Have you heard of the Charlotte Hackerspace? They are pretty cool and would be a great place to learn from people who use these machines a lot. Also, CPCC has a Fablab and most Friday afternoon/evenings you can come in for a tour if you are interested. Google "fab ed Carolinas " for more info
Adam, Thank you very much for the information and yes I would like to came
to Fablab for a tour Friday, do you think that around 5:00 pm would be
good? thank you again
Wait, this week is spring break at CPCC. No one will be there. They will be back next week though. In the meantime, check out Hackerspace Charlotte. CPCC won’t be able to train you, but Hackerspace Charlotte will. http://hackerspacecharlotte.org/
I’m just south of Charlotte. Would love to catch up with other makers and SO users.

As Adam mentioned above, I would plan to check out something like Charlotte Hackerspace or in fact any local community college might have basic CNC or CAD classes.
I’m still learning as it is and am in no way proficient enough to teach good habits anyway. You need to understand the full workflow including your drawing or modeling application, the CAM package to generate tool paths and then whatever means of machine control you wish to use to run the gcode created by the CAM software.
Look to the ShapeOko Wiki for lots of good free applications and even several tutorials to get you started. YouTube is also a good resource
