Hello! I was wondering if you all could help me.

Hello! I was wondering if you all could help me. I’m new to the community of FastLED and coding in general.

A little background, I am a artist but I also love technology. I’m trying to blend the 2 by means of LED music visualizers. The struggle I’m having is understanding the animation process. Key word, ANIMATION. I know what I’d like to create but I have no idea how to translate that into code, let alone sync it with music.

I’ve seen programs like light-o-rama, but they expect you to poor money into their technology. My struggle with FastLED though, is that I know very little about coding and I cannot begin to fathom how complex it might be to program addressable leds for a 3-5 min video without some sort of preview of what I’m creating.

I’m wondering from experienced coders, what your reccomendations would be. Would a coding noob like me be able to render fluid, music-synced animations with this program? If so, could you please please please tell me where to get started…

At my prime interest in this technology I was able to get some LEDS running with arduinos test code. I hope this gives you an idea of what I want to be able to do some day…

Do a search for MSGEQ7 or FFT in this community. You will find a lot of good stuff on the sound to light subject including code examples.

@Brian_Lewis
Thank you Brian!

I work with the MSGEQ7 quite a bit so if you have any questions on it feel free to ask.

@Brian_Lewis could you post some of your msgeq7 fastled patterns and code? id love to check them out

@Tommy_Sciano Do you have anything specific in mind? I have some patterns that change the color based on the audio, others that control brightness based on value of all frequencies being read by the MSGEQ7 and have some wave functions that are controlled by any of the 7 MSGEQ7 channels. My favorite right now is on my infinity mirror and has a bit of a strobe effect(controlled by the intensity of all channels on the MSGEQ7) that cycles through a specified color palette.

@Brian_Lewis Anything you have would be great, I am looking to have some fastled patterns like Pride run with the MSGEQ7.

@Brian_Lewis
I’d also love to see some code using the msgeq7 :wink:
