Hello. Im quite new in printing.

Hello. Im quite new in printing. Actualy Im just getting started to build delta printer. Im wondering about firmware what to use. I red some about Marlin and Repetier. There are some advantages for both solutions on delta printers. Repetier FW and host have some features about parameters in firmware but one branch of marlin has soma auto calibration procedure. So what is your opinion. What you use? The auto calibration feature is integrated now in normal marlin? Or just RichCattells branch? Thanks a lot (Planning to use mega2560 with ramps and DRV8825)

Marlin firmware, repetier host, slic3r. Hardware ramps 1.4, mega, polulu drivers , i3 rework frame.

I use Marlin firmware, repetier host and/or cura with slic3r. Hardware RUMBA, A4988 Polulu, Solidoodle 2 frame

I’m running Repetier FW and Host on my Cerberus with an Azteeg X3. Pretty happy.

I really enjoy Marlin together with http://www.pronterface.com/ and http://slic3r.org/ on my Mendel90 with Ramps 1.4.

The bed level compensation in Marlin is also really neat, I’m testing it on my old rebuilt wooden sells mendel/prusa hybrid and I’m loving it already. I haven’t come around to autotuning PID and such, but I’m looking forward to that as well!

I’m also in the process of hooking up a raspberry pi with http://octoprint.org/ / octopi, which I hope will be good when I get used to the different workflow.

I thought about this every now and then: “Why choosing Marlin over Repetier (or vice versa)?”
I started with Marlin, liked it, then tried Repetier, liked it too. In my experience they feel like they are the same. I never discovered a feature in repetier that I missed in Marlin. Maybe i miss something?
Do u guys have pros or cons for each, that I never considered?

@Rene_Jurack There’s a discussion here from a few years back: http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?4,161124,174248
You can also look at http://reprap.org/wiki/List_of_Firmware

From what I read you might want a specific firmware to work with some special type of hardware (LCD, cameras etc) or software (repetier-host for instance), but the differences between them are really not that big. As far as I can see they are forked from grbl and sprinter anyway, so the basic inner workings are pretty much the same.

I find it important to try different combinations of hardware/firmware/software from time to time, to get a better perspective on things. Also helps combat fanboy-ism. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am running Repeteir firmware and I honestly want to try something else because I am not pleased with it.

Thanks alot guys. It seems to be both of those firmwares are is use:)

I was considering the teacup firmware.

Smoothie will be next for me on my delta, with a new 32 bit board, like a Smoothieboard, or Azteeg X5 Mini. That will be a big jump forward methinks…
