Help! This dry chamber isn’t working at all. 80% in and out. Any ideas for tests?

Your dessicants have to be dry to start out with. They don’t so much remove humidity as balance humidity. If the dessicant has been in an 80%RH environment, it will release moisture until the local environment and the dessicant equalize.

Get a harbor freight pressure pot and pull a vacuum. Way better than dessicate.

@Eclsnowman
Could you elaborate? This sounds like an interesting technique.

Are you using calcium chlorid as desiccant? Than you should achive much lower humidity even with your unsealed box. With my sealed box I have less than 15%

Is your humidity meter working? If you breath against it is humidity changing?

@Marcus_Guin_Klutmann I’m not sure what the desicant is, something like “damp rid”. The chamber is quite well sealed except for the very small clearances between the ptfe and the 1.75mm filament.

@Marcus_Guin_Klutmann the humidity sensor does work at least +/-8%

@Matt_Kraemer For an enclosure, you’ll need to use a DampRid® Hanging Closet Freshener as it has a collection bag to hold the water. The DampRid by itself has no place for the water to escape. This is the device you see in this dwg. http://taulman3d.com/specifications.html
These are currently running 28% while it’s been 60+% outside here in St Louis for a week!

@Tom_Martz
I’m going to get some of those DampRid hanging dessicants. Thanks.
We’re “neighbors”! I live just across the river from St. Louis (O’Fallon, IL). Oh, now I recognize the t-shirt avatar!

To @Tom_Martz 's point, I originally put damp rid in a gallon zip lock bag with a spool and water accumulated at the bottom of the bag (actually surprised to see like 1/2 oz of water in the bag). I then moved to a large sealed container and am using the damp rid in a container, which is basically a cup with damp rid at the top in a tray to allow for water to accumulate at the bottom.

@Tim_Sills I think perhaps my mistake is that I’m letting the water drain into kitty litter below and perhaps that its just evaporating back into the chamber.

Go buy silica cat sand. When it gets moist you dry it in the microwave for 1 minute and use it again. Just dont let your cat pee in it.
