Here is a nice PLA print I just finished up for a customer that I was given permission to share. Printed on my customized RB3 ReliaBuild 3D printer with tight tolerance solid linear bearings installed. These bearings produce a very noticeable surface improvement over the cheap linear ball bearing kind. I’m very pleased with the surface quality. I used a 0.3mm nozzle and 0.1mm layers. The print is just over 7.5" long. Took just under 19 hours.

Can add this to the series of things I’d like to try with soluble support interface layers from a dual extrusion setup.

The dice is coming along. So we are getting “there”.

May I ask what bearings you are using? I’ve been wanting to build a printer using polymer bearings, but am interested in all options.

Would also like to know what bearings you use? The print looks awesome

is it a wine corkscrew? if not, what is it?

@Kura_kuea and @borislav_bozanic the bearings I am using are from PBC Linear.

They are the FJ08 Tight tolerance bearings. I tried the FJC08 (compensated - Looser tolerance) and those did not do as well on my printer. Too much wiggle movement and although quieter no better in print quality than the ball-bearing linear bearings we are all familiar with.

Typically it is not recommended to use all tight tolerance bearings because they will be too constrained. You would normally put on one tight tolerance bearing on an axis and the rest compensated. The design of my printer allows the bearing holders to float and self align before you tighten them down so it worked great with no issues. So far they have held up really well compared to other solid plastic bearings I have tried.

@james_wolf Yes, that is a wine bottle corkscrew design. Not functional of course.

@Jeff_Parish yeah I was wondering, no way that could handle the force of actually opening a wine bottle. Are you making a mold for something else or simply a decorative piece for wine (and fish?) lovers? nice work btw

@james_wolf Thanks! My guess would be just a nice decorative piece for wine and fish lovers.

The print could be used as a lost wax casting for a metal version although I’m not sure a cast version of the screw would work very well. Seems like it would be too brittle when cast.

Really nice print… The detail on the scales is amazing !

Thank you Mike!
