Here is recent project number two…
Finally got around to printing a Baby Groot!
He finished while I was at work and I got a text from my daughter asking if she could paint him. I replied “No, not yet. He might need some clean up first.” Immediately I got another text… “I think I got a little exited…”
Here is what she had done to him.
Pretty darn cool for a raw print fresh off the printer.
Printed on an RB3 at 0.1mm layers and 24% infill. No supports needed.
Was it a PLA print? Curious as to what paint your daughter used. Looks good!
@Paul_Seccombe Thanks! Yes, PLA is the filament I used for the print. She used acrylics to paint him. No surface prep at all.
@Jeff_Parish I have been looking at various wood-filled filaments to print a Groot but based on your daughter’s efforts I think I will give painting a try. Please pass on my compliments.
@Paul_Seccombe I will pass them on to her! Thank you. For wood like prints I like to use ColorFabb Bamboo fill. This was a test print to see how the file would print before using the bamboo. And, like you, I think the painting opens up more options. PLA is 1/4 the cost as well.
The Bamboo looks best when polished with 1000 grit emery paper. It shows off the wood like qualities.
@Jeff_Parish for me, the main advantage of a wood fill would be the smell
Oh yes! I love the smell of wood fill prints!
