Here's a preview of my latest project,

Here’s a preview of my latest project, a 24 rib 2.6m patio umbrella with 480 WS2811s driven by an ESP32. Special thanks to @Jason_Coon , @Yves_BAZIN , @Sam_Guyer , @Mark_Kriegsman , @Daniel_Garcia and many others…

I’m using 12 way parallel output, each pin is driving two ribs.

Super cool Jeremy.

Beautiful, well done!

Really cool indeed and really nice animations

I’ll use WS2818s next time!
I’ve got an led out :frowning:

Darn.
What’s the separate little sparkling piece (above the laptop screen)?

@marmil , well spotted, that’s the next project I’ll be sharing shortly. ESP32 powered hat currently with 296 SK9822s an MPU9250 and microphone running FFT. It was running a sparkle pattern which goes with the bass

Wow I’ve been procrastinating doing this exact same project but with WS2812 strips instead of the individual WS2811s. I’m thinking of replacing the exterior fabric with a clear plastic though. My previous umbrella only had 8 spines but I just picked up a 24 spine one, your spiral effects are out of this world!

@Hart_Welles , that amazing pattern is actually only pride with no modifications at all, straight out of the box!

@Hart_Welles , which controller are thinking of using?? If you’re going to use an ESP32 I’ve got a few tips…

@Jeremy_Spencer I probably will be, I was using an ESP8266 with Jason Coon’s webserver for my old umbrella but I’ve started moving everything over to the 32 because it’s superior

My plan is for it to be battery powered though so I can walk around with it at festivals so the power management might be a little different from what you have, I’ll probably just hook up like 4 18650s in parallel

True, my brolly is mains powered, but my hat is battery powered and has 296 SK9822s, you need lots of battery if you’re using it during the day but not much in the dark as the brightness is so low. I use a single 5000mah li-po cell in the hat.
