Here’s another cool open source project! A drone racer with tiltable arms designed by a friend of mine @Pau_Mallol at Inkonova!

open source?
That’s what the website says. I’ve looking to do something like this but hadn’t gotten around to designing it, now I don’t have to
Yeah looks like some parts will be available in a couple weeks but for the most part they are selling it
Thanks for the mention Daniel!
We are using an open source firmware for the flight controller called Cleanflight (you can test our version on www.github/Inkonova) and most of the 3D printed parts will be released on Thingiverse by the end of May when we are 100% happy with the design and printing parameters. (http://www.thingiverse.com/The_Tilt_Drone_Racer/about).
We are using the Colorfabb XT-CF20 Carbon fiber blend for the 3DP parts although we want the user to be able to print spares in any material they want (better to keep flying with a cheap PLA part after breaking the original CF blend parts than going home right?).
We are selling two versions so far: the 3DP and the PRO versions. The 3DP has 85% of the frame 3D printed, the PRO version has several critical parts reinforced and CNCed in POM or Aluminum red anodized. However, all parts in both versions are cross-compatible for maximum versatility.
On the manufacturing side of the 3DP parts, we are building a distributed manufacturing network to reduce lead time between 3D Printing manufacturer and resellers, save on transport, emissions, etc. So far we have people in EU and US/Canada that supply those parts.
I must say that talking to Daniel and his colleagues about 3D Printing for end use products helped a lot, for instance he helped us on the bending and impact tests’ samples when we were investigating the best material.
Last but not least: if you plan to use CF blend filaments, I recommend you to read this post on 3D Hubs: https://www.3dhubs.com/talk/thread/thoughts-about-new-carbon-fiber-filament-colorfabb
Happy flying!
that is cool
Really cool!
do you have the stl files for the top and lower chassis for 3d printing testing please.
