Why in the freakin’ world is this machine so popular? It does so many things wrong! Who is suggesting that people buy this thing? (I realize, this is a custom up-sized version)
It’s not a “particular” machine. It just cobbled together from loads of bits that were lying around.
@Richard_Rogers it’s almost exactly a http://www.k8200.eu/ even down to the dual Z rods on one side, and a third Z rod on the inside of the frame on the opposing side.
It is similar. It’s working well. Don’t you like that type of kit?
Look at how much desk space is wasted to get a standard 200mmx200mm build area. You could have a machine that took up 1/4 of the space with the same build area if it were designed correctly. Moving the build plate is always a terrible idea.
Fair comment. Space isn’t an issue for me.
I do commend the build though; you did well.
Are there any major downsides to having only one z motor?
it seems to work quite well. Ive made quite a few things with it already and the z-axis has never caused issue.
