Hey all,
Below are renderings of a project currently under construction: The Blazing Death Ship. My intention was to teach myself enough this year to handle LED sequencing for this myself but… well… building a 20’ long fire-breathing metal Viking ship took a little more out of me than I initially expected. So, now I’m on the hunt for a person or two who can program LEDs in their sleep and who might be interested in putting that knowledge to the test on a pretty sizable project. I know what we want it to look like; I’ve figured out some MacGuyver workarounds to get it to work; I’m convinced that this is not the most efficient way of doing things.
Anyone interested/intrigued/up for the challenge? Let me know and I’ll fill you in on the details
I (unsurprisingly) have thoughts - time might be a different problem. But happy to chat over email or coffee if you are in the sf bay area!
@Daniel_Garcia I think you already have the circle led work done!
Burning man bound?
Burning Man bound, indeed.
I can help on or off playa. If you’re talking about wiring/coding the whole thing on the playa… yeah i could be down for an adventure like that. I’ve also built my own flame effects so I know my way around those w\o getting killed.
Do you have power supplies in hand? were you going to go with 12V from the art car system or do you have a 120V source (dedicated generator or inverter for lighting)
My camp was placed at 6:30 and B, I’m with the Indiana Core Project
@Matt_Starbuck My hope is to have everything done before we leave LA though we may have to rewire once we get up there, depending on how much we have to take apart for transit. I randomly ran across a new idea that I’m going to test out as soon as I get home tonight, might have adjusted things somewhat. I’ll let you know tomorrow how things have progressed and where my knowledge may still be lacking. Either way, we’re practically neighbors (7:45 & B) so you should definitely swing by up on the playa to take a look at things, poke around, make suggestions, take a ride.
@Jason_Decker I’m in LA and working on a BM build as well, a 20ft tall viewing platform for our camp. My LED coding capabilities are not exactly robust but I’m making good progress. Maybe we should compare notes.
@Matt_Starbuck I have been using 120V power supplies to put out 20A of 5V goodness to run several WS2801 5 meter strips. I have yet to find a reliable (not Chinese grey market) DC/DC power supply that can give me lots of 5V amps! I would love to run off of 12V DC battery power.
@Ian_Wood PC Power supplies on the playa…OOOOOOOOF. In a filtered, protected box, maybe. I think some of the stuff that Mean-Well makes might fit your needs.
