Hey All, Does this seem slow or normal?

One other alternative is to export the gcode and run it off the sd card using pronterface or universal gcode sender. The problem that you are running into is with the image itself… it has a dithered grayscale surrounding the image this will slow you down big time it’s sending gcode lines for each pixel that isn’t black because they aren’t the same shade

For a laser garbage in = garbage out… that is an extremely low resolution image

Just tracing it now in Inkscape. I’ll give it another whirl. Thanks for all your help.

Yeah man, no problem… the last thing I want is for people to get frustrated and give up… I am working on setting up a live stream tutorial to get people more familiar with image processing

When I was using CorelLaser and the M2 Nano I would just open the file. Drag it to wehere I wanted on screen, set speed and power… go!.. I understand image prep is a big thing. Just learning curve to get going.

Yeah it’s a bit more image prep for low resolution objects but for great grayscale engraves Laserweb wins hands down

@Kris_Sturgess This looks like the same issue we have been experiencing that kicked off the whole ‘jerky movement’ thread a week or so ago.
Looks like running engraving jobs from the SD card is the only solution with the smoothie-board.

Is it even possible to do 2500mm/s for white/black or travel speeds? Seems a bit overly high in my opinion. I may be wrong though…

Guys I did a test at 400mms with the image abode at the default dpi

@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty i get nowhere near the smoothness or speed as in your video. That’s why I was asking and my attempt at higher speed settings. Something isn’t right. I used to be able to engrave like your vidcbefore upgrading to smoothieboard. :frowning:

@Kris_Sturgess I have my seek and feed rate at 9000. You could try that, this are at the top of the config file

@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty I’m currently set at 8000. I can bump to 9000 and try?

In trying to see what can be causing this in the meantime I would double to try. Also increase your acceleration to 6000 just for the test. Also in LW travel moves does not need to go over 200mms in my experience. FYI in the config you have max speed for the drives set to 500mms so issuing something above that will not work

@Kris_Sturgess M3 and M5 must be upper case that is why you get unsupported command. However as mentioned you do not want to use M3/M5 if you can avoid it.

I have it typed in as uppercase as the snapshot shows. I use gcode commands all the time with my 3D printer. @Wolfmanjm

@Kris_Sturgess did you try my above suggestion wich resulted in a different effect?

bumping the acceleration up to 6000 seemed to help. Doing a fresh install of node and laserweb to see if that helps.

does LW3 not uppercase G/M codes before sending to smoothie? if not that is a must.

So many quirks. Frustrating for a new user. Taking a break from everything. Going to rewire and pretty up my interlock wiring tonight with wire ferrules. Will give it another shot with a fresh mindset tomorrow.

@Kris_Sturgess I’m sorry and beleive me we have tried to make it as easy as possible
