Hey all just joined the group hoping to find some good advice.

Hey all just joined the group hoping to find some good advice. I recently bought a monoprice select mini v2 and it should be here Wednesday. I do have a few concerns I’m hoping y’all can help me figure out and or give me some peace of mind. I currently live in military dorms, how loud is this thing? Should I run a small vent out of my window and do you recommend any mods to make it any safer as my main concern is safety considering I share a very large building and don’t want to be the b hole who gets the building evacuated at 1am.

Also does anybody know of any free designer software recommendations for windows and iOS? I plan on printing on my computer desk with Hatchbox PLA.

Lastly, I will mainly be focusing on designing new cases for my raspberry pi if anybody’s got any experience. Thanks in advance, I apologize for abundance of questions.

Right off the back, I would make sure the heated bed (if it has one) is hooked up with a mosfet. I’ve heard of too many fires because of burnt up components. Next, make sure all the wires are plugged in nice and tight. Loose connections make resistance. Resistance creates heat. As for noise, I wouldn’t expect it to be too loud. You probably wouldn’t want to leave it running while you sleep though.

See Tom’s most recent video on safety (couple of posts above this one). And if you print PLA, odors should not be an issue.

As to the Raspberry Pi cases, check Thingiverse, there are lots there.

For making own designs: https://www.tinkercad.com : I have yet to find a desktop version that lets you build the basics so I’ll recommend this place. It also lets you import STL so you can edit to a degree them for your thing verse finds.

Thanks everybody! Appreciate the help.
