Hey Community, after a long break I am back working with some leds! I haven’t kept up with the trends, and I was wondering if there is currently a favorite for waterproof strips here? I am interested in ordering some rolls (5m to 10m tops) to start working with, but not sure which model to go with. I have worked the most with WS2801, but it looks like APA102 is now the go to? Also, is Ray Wu @ Aliexpress still recommended? I am not in any rush and don’t mind waiting.

Hi, i use APA102s or the equivalent SK9822 (which i prefer and is slightly faster). I get mine from Ray. I don’t use waterproof strips, so can’t help with that.

It depends what you want really but the WS2811/WS2812 are not a bad and cheap option. AP102 is the premium version really

Thanks for the feedback, maybe it makes sense to save money and go with WS2811/WS2812 strips . Currently I only have two planned project/ideas. I would like to redo my first project, which was wrapping leds around a bicycle rim to create a chandelier of sorts. I used a strand of diffuse WS2801s, but I think it would be cool to use strips with more pixels. Second idea is to create a matrix of sorts in a radiator. Our living room in the apartment has an old radiator which is not hooked up. I was thinking I could fill the empty vertical spaces with strips. I guess nothing I am doing would require the fastest speeds.

If it matters, I will likely continue to use esp8266 based boards.
