Hey everybody!

Sourcing parts is one of the things seems to be creating most problems for those wanting to build a OpenRC project. As I would like to use only 3dprinted parts sometimes sourced hardware will make the projects better.
I’m currently looking at designing a solution for the next project that involves threaded rods. Size is probably around M5…
So my question to you is, can those interested source threaded rods or will this be a problem?
Is there perhaps a company here in the group that can sell threaded rods?

Let me know what you guys think.

Everyone that has built a reprap has had to source threaded rods. I don’t see it as a big deal. If it makes the project better, I say go for it! Most hardware stores have it.

Or use something that is readily available at a hardware store. Though that is going to be an issue because you will get a 5mm rod and we will have 1/4". And don’t get started on thread pitch.

Anyone here that can go down to Home Depot and see whether they carry metric?

A search on http://ebay.co.uk for M5 threaded rod shows availability and reasonably priced as well.

I get most of my fasteners in the UK from http://www.kaysfasteners.co.uk/ and they also have a range of threaded rods.

Threaded rods are pretty easy to get here in the US. You can easily find them at any hardware store.

I have so many 1/4" acme rods, it’s ridiculous. They are dirt cheap from my source. I understand metric is better. I’m switching everything over to 4 start metric acme. That said, Daniel knows I’m good to share sources to help him. I’ve been encouraging him to source a kit. There is a big headache w sourcing so many little parts but I would pay for that kit as I value my time and his.

Thanks for the feedback, it’s good to know. It might not even be the final solution but it’s good to know what you all think. I’ll keep pondering…

Not a problam, basic hardware store stuff.

ISO standard threaded rods are common enough even here in .fi. Imperial ones are nearly impossible to find.

Go ahead are very easy to find everywhere. And please keep in touch about the New project.

Thanks for all the answers, it´s good to know even though i have now ditched this idea for a 3D Printed version…
