Hey everyone. I need help! My prusa mendel with sanguinololu 1.3a has worked like a charm untill now.

I plugged it in today and there was smoke coming from one of the drivers. I havent changed anything but now the 2 Z motors measure 2.8 ohm instead of 4 ohm like the rest of them.

Only thing that was different from before is that i attached lcd display/controller to it. But that is not where the smoke came from…

I am really clue-less about what might be wrong!

Replace that smokey driver.

Once the smoke comes out, you can’t put it back in.

I agree just replace the driver and see if that fixes it. Drivers do wear out…

Ok i’ll try that. So the resistance difference should be no problem?

Well the driver is MUCH cheaper to replace, I would swap it out first on that basis alone. However, you may want to order two in case the issue is somewhere else and the new one immediately goes to the blue smoky beyond when you power it on.

Also, before powering it on again, check the wiring and make sure nothing is shorting.

Do you have your two Z motor wired in parallel? That would explain the lower resistance.
Obviously you can plug one of the other drivers into the Z driver position to try out the motors but you might just fry that driver too.

The drivers can fry if the motor is unplugged during operation (even just driver enabled, not moving) so check you don’t have any loose connections.

After closer inspection the whole printer does nothing anymore. At least 2 but probably all drivers are blown. I believe this is the end of my sanguinololu…

Now looking for new electronics. Again sanguinololu or ramps?

To an extent I don’t think it’s a big deal either way. Ramps or sanguinololu
