Hey everyone! I was wondering if someone here knows if the inside of the J-head brass needs to be polished in order to work well with PLA? The J-head wiki doesn’t mention anything about polishing.
Reason I ask, is because our new samples are coming in (see picture) and the manufacturer forgot to polish the inside heater chamber for the samples. Is it necessary for it to be polished?
teflon tube inside there is…
@Christopher_Deschamp Not sure I understand what you mean?
Teflon tube is included, it’s just not in the picture. I’m wondering about the brass piece…
There should be Teflon in the brass so it shouldn’t need polish
No teflon in the brass @Joe_Spanier Dont know about polishing, but couldn’t hurt. Otherwise install on a printer and print something from PLA with lots of small detail and you will fund out.
Question. Did your shop forget to polish it or was your print missing the surface finish requirement?
@Brian_Wilson Our manufacturer forgot to polish it. These are just samples so we can see if they’re hitting our required tolerances.
@Joe_Spanier I think you’re referring to when you convert 3mm J-head to a 1.75mm, then you need teflon according to the wiki.
I think, the inside of the brass hole is neccesary polish it in order to have less friction when is estruded
sorry "…when is extruded "
It shouldn’t make any difference, polishing inside there would be a waste of time in my experience.
The conductivity of brass is very high, and as such the filament at that point should be molten, at the very least when it comes into contact with the hot brass it will become fluid, lubricious and it’ll slide along there without issues.
I did however notice that this hotend is not an E3D-v6, which seems to be some sort of oversight.
Thanks for the feedback @Sanjay_Mortimer !
Not sure what you mean by oversight?
