Hey everyone.
I’m trying to raster a simple 8bit greyscale image… and it has been working alright. However I made the same photo larger, and now the machine moves REALLY slowly, no matter how big I label the dark and light feedrates in CAM.

Also, I use inkscape for cutting lines. When I dimension a path, and export it, it cuts exactly the size I defined. If I use inkscape to scale and image to what I want, then upload it to LaserWeb3, it comes in far smaller than I told it to…

Anyone have a guide for image settings for rastering? Such as resolution, pixels/cm…

New to this, so forgive dumb/irritation questions!

Are you using smoothie?

If you are, give LaserWeb4 a ride with that 8bit image and see how it goes. Download the executable here https://github.com/LaserWeb/LaserWeb4-Binaries

I do not know what smoothie is, I’m running GRBL on an Arduino if that helps…

Just researched smoothie… may have to get myself one of those.

What version of grbl? Get 1.1e and download LaserWeb4. Also visit the wiki github to read how to properly config LaserWeb for grbl1.1e

This is the smoothie compatible that a bunch of people are using for lasers now: http://cohesion3d.com/cohesion3d-mini-laser-upgrade-bundle/
Not sure if you’ve got a k40 laser cutter or a diode machine, but we’ve got people upgrading both with this.

I am running 1.1f. I have downloaded LaserWeb4, but am just getting permission errors.

Permission errors of what sort?

“Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.” I’ve tried running as administrator and changing permissions on the .exe file.

@raykholo Neat! I’m running the machine I made with OpenBuilds Vslot with a diode.

Sweet! I dug up my openbuilds stash yesterday… Figured a huge diode laser build is exactly the sort of thing one would do with this stuff. Will get there eventually.

Let me know if you have any board questions, and I’d love to see your build at some point!

Wow! That’s quite the stash! I could only afford 5 pieces of rail and the stepper motors, so I used Inventor to 2d model the gantry plates, so that they would hold the steppers and ride on skateboard bearings. I used my school’s laser cutter to prototype them in acrylic (to find tolerances etc.) All tied together with a belt and pinion design.

So I also use inkscape and here’s what works for me: first thing is to resize document to your work area in the laser, and change the default units to mm. saving SVG’s the normal way but I use File - Export PNG image for rasters.on the popup dialog you can change your ultimate size and desired DPI, rename if you choose to and click save. As long as the DPI settings are the same in both programs the scale will match

@Andy_Walker did it show you a firewall permission when you installed it? Is the only thing i can think off. Please go to windows firewall and add laserweb as permited

Joe I have set everything up like that, just monkeying with settings. Thank you for the tip!

@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty I will try this… thank you!

@Andy_Walker new binaries available updated today

@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty I get this error when adding LaserWeb.exe as an allowed program…

Is this from today’s download? Did you check the Windows firewall?
