Hey everyone.
Which extruder would you recommend for a 1.75mm Bowden setup ?
Also, what are your thoughts about 3mm vs 1.75mm ?

1.75mm is easier to control due to more steps/mm, less backpressure, more typically made to good tolerances with no junk/ball bearings/etc, less complicated to push (direct drive vs hobbed bolts and gearing, etc)…
Downsides being that it’s a pain in the ass to work with if it’s not on a spool. Only get the kind that come on a spool if you want to retain your sanity.
Have you seen the injection molded seemecnc filament feeder? http://shop.seemecnc.com/EZStruder-Cold-End-Kit-70780.htm
@Brian_Evans I prefer to make my own, more fun
@Loren_Brandenburg I just ordered an E3D yesterday. I was referring though to the extruder mechanism, not the hotend.
@Shachar_Weis , extruders are all pretty much the same. They’re either direct drive, or they’re geared down. They don’t really have many characteristics that set them apart, as all of their performance is roughly the same. Stay away from ‘plunger’ style extruders though, you want a bearing to be pressing against it so there’s no drag on the filament. Other than that, the cold end is generally just mounting options.
@Loren_Brandenburg yeah, I think you might be referring to the minimalist extruder. I have one built up, haven’t had time to fabricate the mounting bracket yet tho
