Hey folks. I'm looking to touch base with someone about making a custom shim

Hey folks. I’m looking to touch base with someone about making a custom shim for a project I have going. Idk if anyone takes requests or payment for product but I’d be willing to pay for this. This shim is no bigger than a soda cap. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the community.

Tyler I would be willing to help teach you how to do it yourself, rather than do it for you. I’m more a teach a man to fish rather than give a man a fish type of guy.

@Rob_Taylor1 I would love to have someone teach me. Sadly I do not own a printer. I dups ask for the prusa for Christmas though lol thank you for your reply

Are you in the US? I can help you out if so. Also what does the part go to as this dictates the material

@Griffin_Paquette Hi Griffin yes i am in the states. New england to be more exact. It goes to the intake of my carburetor.

Bike or car? It might be tough to have a part made that can withstand the temperatures without having it done in metal

Get the car warmed up and put a thermometer on the carburetor?

It’s a 1980 moped 49cc engine. It’s on the intake side right at the carb fitting so heat shouldn’t be Too bad. But I don’t know the plastic melting point. I can’t get this running without the shim. My next bet is to drop $50+ on an intake and wait for it to be made, while not a bad option, just no the route I’m looking to go

Do you already have the part designed? I’ll print you one in PLA if it already done.

Note that PLA has probably the lowest melting point of all 3D printed materials.

@Griffin_Paquette is there a program I can use? I’m sorry I’m really not trying to waste your time!

No worries you’re not at all! Sorry I’ve been so horrible at replying. If you want to design it try fusion 360 as it’s free. If you have a scanner and the part is just a uniform shape, then feel free to put the part face on a scanner with a ruler also with it for size reference and send me the scan. I can just draw it up roughly from that. Like others said PLA isn’t the best but I’ll print you two so that you can always cast one if you want. Although all plastics will get warm so I would still recommend getting the machines part

@Griffin_Paquette no worries man. I’m going to dabble in the 360 and get back to you!
