I’m also interested in z-axis probe. I saw the tool itself on eBay costs about 7 bucks but I have no clue how to plug it in. I’m running NC-Studio. Many have videos for Mach3 but little for NC-Studio.
im using mach 3 im afraid! as far as i can see, people just have it crocodile clipped onto the spindle? what do I need to do in mach 3 for this to work? thanks
Mach 3 has macros to run when you press the z zero button. That macro use the “probe” pin, which you need to configure in mach3 inputs.
So holding the probe at the workpiece and pressing the z zero button in mach3, it will move the milltool slowly down until the probe input changes state. This means that the milltool must be able to toggle a switch inside the probe, or the milltool must guide current though itself through the probe and into the machine interface to make the probe input pin change state.
The probe has a known height which is given to mach3. At the very point of contact is that exact height of z. The bottom of the probe is z zero which mach3 now knows.
