Hey guys, here's something I've been working on for a while.

Hey guys, here’s something I’ve been working on for a while. Surprise! It’s your typical LED strip reacting to music. I just recently built the design into an infinite mirror and it’s requiring I fix the code so this is all I have to show for now. It’s just an animation that’s going without music.

I’m using a Teensy 3.2 w/ it’s audio adapter for aux and microphone input, it does the FFT magic, and then fastled and the OctoWS2811 library drive a WS2812 strip with 266 LEDs. I also have a SN74HCT245N to level shift the data signal.

This is a hastily built prototype with a wood frame I through together and some plexiglass sheets from Home Depot. The plexiglass is covered with some not-so-great reflective film but I’m looking to upgrade the mirrors big time for V2. However, the design is quite large (33" x 33") and I’m not sure how I should go about upgrading them. Especially since I have to cut the mirrors to fit the design. Any advice is appreciated!

I also think it’d be a lot easier to build with the LED strip behind 2 one-way mirrors, not sandwiched between them. That would also keep the glow against the wall outside of the frame, which I like. However, I’ve never seen an infinite mirror built like this so I’m curious if anyone has.

Another plan for V2 is a frame for the smallest squares within the mirrors. I think it’ll make it look a lot better, but this is one reason why the construction is difficult.

Feel free to ask questions or give me advice!

Nice! I’ve been wanting to build a round infinity mirror clock for a long time, but I’ve never gotten around to it.

The mirrors look great. If you look online you can buy plexiglass/perspex mirrors cut to size. These are great for the rear mirror. For the front it’s also possible to buy half mirrored plexiglass sheet, also cut to size. This is much harder to find, but I’ve seen a couple of people selling it on eBay in the UK.

Awesome - a thing of beauty!
