Hey guys. I am buying my first 3d printer. A Tevo Tarantula. I bought it from Aliexpress and it has just shipped from china. I am planning to create a startup where I design, and build my prototype engineered products in ABS (it has to retain integrity even put inside a car parked in scorching sun) to end customers.
I have done some research into 3d printing in general and I know that I have to get bed levelled and setup printer right, clean the nozzle …
I have a few questions.
-
How important is it to print supports for my X, Y and Z axis carriages? I don’t need super accurate 3d prints with smooth surface.
-
I want to print very fast. I know there will be layer imperfections and grainy boundaries. Can I finish my products by blowing them with heat gun to smoothen the surface?
-
Is ABS really that difficult to work with? I will be printing parts of atleast 3mm thickness. So, do I really need to enclose my 3d printer to retain the heat or is it OK to leave the printer open?
-
Is ABS the most suitable material or is there anything new. Last I checked on Makers Muse youtube channel, I found ABS is heat resistant. Are there any new materials?
-
I live in a place where power outages. So, if the power cuts off, is there a resume option? If not, should I buy a 24 volt battery system and directly connect my printer to it or should I still convert to AC and use the adapter? (My noobness shining through)

Are there any tips in general for a noob like me?
