Hey guys. I assume that some of you are experienced in 3D printing so I have a question. As said in a previous post I like to play with Lego and Warhammer 40K, but designing the parts myself is killing me especially the Warhammer models. would it be worth it to buy a 3D scanner so I can just scan and print. If so can anyone recommended a good one for a decent price. Thanks

@Matthew_Del_Rosso , have you tried using something like Autodesk 123D Catch? All it requires is a camera and a stand to place your model on. 3D Scanners aren’t going to get you a ton of detail generally speaking.

Note, you will not get great detail out of a 3d printer. Even if you have a good scan. War hammer models are crazy high resolution.

FDM no but DLP is getting a lot better and cheaper lately

DLP would be the way to go for warhammer scale stuff with enough detail.
Got limited succes with fdm and a 0,25 nozzle. But not worth the effort.

Scanning is where your real problem is. I have not seen anything under 5k$ that can do the details you want.

@Daid_Braam saw a lot of dutchmogul prints on a beamer based printer that looked ok for 28mm

guess I should start looking into DLP thanks for the help

@Matthew_Del_Rosso Try before you buy. Use a print service to see the level of detail you will get in your own hands. Download models, pay @Shapeways_Inc or @imaterialise or some other company to make your prints. Look at how they turn out before you buy a expensive printer.
